Malibu: Best Place to Spot a Celebrity in LA?

By Echo Zhou

This city is home to all the major television and film production studios and is where a major portion of film and television has been produced. Many industry luminaries live and work in L.A. Therefore, “Where can I spot celebrities in Los Angeles?” may be the No. 1 question Angelenos field from out-of-town visitors. If you were wondering the same questions, no worries! Let’s see if today’s one-day trip will give you the answer.

Getty Villa

10:00am – 1:00pm

In order to spot a celebrity, you need to live like a celebrity first. Sunshine, breakfast tea, and detailed story of Trojan Woman (I am talking about the classic Greek tragedy, not USC sorority girls), you can get all at the same time at Getty Villa.

J.Paul Getty, one of the richest men who ever lived built this glorious museum in Malibu, the home of a multitude of movie stars. Walk through the Villa’s photo-perfect herb garden on the way to the outdoor amphitheater, you will be inspired by the design and decoration of this ancient villa. Along the way, you might enjoy an inexpensive al fresco lunch in its Garden Tea Room, an informal, outdoor patio cafeteria. The museum has so much to offer, and perhaps the most amazing part is that the admission is free. To learn more about

So, run, do not walk, to see the museum!

Malibu Country Mart

1:00pm – 2: 30pm

Spotting celebrities is quite easy in Malibu, if you know where to look. And sometimes, you don’t even have to look hard. As Malibu’s main hub, Malibu Country Mart, a casual outdoor shopping and dinning center attracts a mix of both tourists who stroll through after a morning at the beach and local celebrities who pretend they don’t want to be seen. Celebrities such as Justin Beiber, Kate Beckinsale, and Simon Cowell, just to name a few, love dining at Cafe Habana or Marmalade Cafe Malibu. Sunday brunch is always the best time to spot a star. But also sometimes, you may see them grabbing an easy lunch at Starbucks and watching their youngsters and children at the mart’s playground.

3:00pm – 5:00pm

Plan A: Carbon Beach

This part of Malibu beach begins on Carbon Canyon road. It is also known as “Billionaire’s Beach.” Larry Ellison, David Geffen and Haim Saban own oversized homes along this luxurious beach strip. This is the perfect place to lie in the sun, catch a tan and hopefully a look at a famous billionaire.

Plan B: Pepperdine University

On the way to the next possible spot to meet a celebrity, don’t miss the chance to visit the No.2 of the most beautiful college campus in America ranked by Princeton Review.

Moonshadows

5:30pm – 7:00pm

Again, dining time! Restaurants are the best places to see a star and even eat like one. Drive south from Pepperdine University on Pacific Coast Highway to Moonshadows, you will see the valet-only parking with beach front views. With high possibilities, the young Hollywood crowd shows up at night at the beautiful blue bar.
